Outcome:

  • At the end of the course participants will understand what emotional intelligence is and why it is important in the workplace.  They will have awareness of the tools and competencies of Emotional Intelligence and have identified perspectives and competencies that they can apply in their own work situation.  Participants will have a working knowledge of psychological safety, the value and importance of it and some techniques and practices to increase it within their team. 

 

Outline

  • What is Emotional Intelligence?

    • Emotional Intelligence is about emotional regulation. It is the ability to be aware of our own emotional states, to see those as something outside of ourselves and to bring mindful awareness to them, to manage our internal state, and our behaviours.  It is also to understand what might be happening for others and the effect that our behaviours and interactions have on them. 

  • Key competencies of Emotional Intelligence

    • Cultivating non-judgemental curiosity

    • Open to and accepting of change (continuous improvement / impermanence)

    • No failure only feedback

    • Awareness (social and self->>> strengths / learning opportunities / current state / potential)

    • Empathy and Sensitivity

    • Naming emotions with specificity (the wheel / how they feel in the body)

    • Emotional regulation

    • Space between stimuli and reaction

    • Setting healthy boundaries

    • Seeing a person in the context of their entire life (the value of authenticity vs leaving problems at the door)

  • Group Activity – Benefits of Key competencies of Emotional Intelligence in the workplace – what will I apply?

  • Focusing on what you can control or influence.

  • The Un-Comfort Zone.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming - inputs, processing, and responses:

    • CBT = thoughts lead to feelings, lead to results – change at all levels but powerful at the thought level.

    • NLP = inputs from the sense create a representation of reality in the brain through the language of the senses which is distinctly different from reality.

  • Psychological Safety

    • Psychological Safety at work is established trust that all will be treated with respect even when offering new ideas, questions, making judgment calls, making mistakes, or raising concerns. 

    • How Psychological Safety correlates with profitability – research-based evidence of the correlation.

    • What we can do to increase psychological safety (deposits not withdrawals)

  • Group Activity – Psychological Safety at work – what will I do differently to increase PS in my team?

  • Workplace applications of Emotional Intelligence (brainstorm)

  • Group activity applying these concepts to a real work situation (selected by group – relevant & topical)

  • Recap, review, and Lightbulb Moments

  • A PDF of the key learnings will be provided.

 

Proposed Post Work

  • Take at least one specific action to improve Emotional Intelligence and Psychological Safety within the participants own team and write a reflection for manager review / or add a short agenda item to management team meetings to discuss Emotional Intelligence and Psychological Safety initiatives introduced and outcomes.

 

 

Optional Extra – Post Session Group Coaching

Guide participants through identifying current state vs desired state and to determine the key changes they will implement within their teams to increase Emotional Intelligence and Psychological Safety. 

Alternate between explaining the process step by step in plenary and working in pairs to implement the steps. 

Participants will exit the session with:

  • A clear idea of the need and area of focus for their team

  • A gameplan for improving Emotional Intelligence and Psychological Safety within their own teams.

 

Length: 60 Minutes

Participants: Maximum of 6 – even numbers ideal

Cost: $250 per session

 

 

Optional Extra – Post Session 1:1 Coaching

Guide the participant through identifying current state vs desired state and to determine the key changes they will implement within their teams to increase Emotional Intelligence and Psychological Safety. 

Explain the process step by step and coach the participant to implement the steps and craft their story and plan the delivery.

The participant will exit the session with:

  • A clear idea of the need and area of focus for their team

  • A gameplan for improving Emotional Intelligence and Psychological Safety within their own teams.

 

Length: 60 Minutes

Cost: $150 per session / or $120 per session if 10 or more are booked

 

 

 

All elements of the programme can be tailored to meet the needs of your organisation.

The Platform is negotiable however Zoom or Google Meet are the preferred platforms due to the ease of creating and managing breakout rooms, using collaborative tools such as whiteboards and both personalised and group chat.

 

The costs indicated include:

  • Design, development and tailoring of material.

  • Up to two session outline consults and subsequent revisions of material.

  • Delivery of the sessions.

  • Capturing and reporting on feedback from the sessions.
