Internal Stress Hack #2: Mindfulness


We hear a lot about mindfulness these days but it being trendy doesn’t diminish the incredible power of being mentally present in the current moment and not lost in the past or future in our minds.


Awareness practice is an easy and effective way to strengthen our mental muscles to be able to both notice our state and also to direct our mind to be in or return to the present for lengthening periods.


This practice is recommended by Neuroscience and supported by research and is also long been practised by eastern cultures.


THE TECHNIQUE

How do you practice awareness?


❓Do you know that you are reading this post?

✅If you answered yes, then that is awareness

❌If you answered no, then the knowledge that your mind had drifted off is also awareness.


Essentially awareness practice is just deliberately trying to keep your conscious awareness in the present moment instead of being lost in thought.


It is best to start with short periods 2-3 minutes several times a day.


Try listening to sounds around you to focus your mind.


Some people prefer noticing the breath.

Expect to be terrible at it and just keep trying.


For something so simple it is really hard, I mean feels impossible hard, but the number of seconds we can hold our attention in one place does gradually increase.


When your mind drifts off and you notice, that is success, just bring it back to the task without criticism of yourself.


Short and often practice of mindful awareness brings incredible benefits and joy in such simple things as the touch of a gentle breeze or the rays of the sun.
