Internal Stress Hack #6 – Minimal Viable Product
Trying to make sure everything is perfect before we start places an enormous amount of stress on us.
There is a phrase from the tech industry which is a great philosophy to live by.
'Minimal Viable Product'
Essentially it means to start with something that is ‘good enough’ and then tweak it bit by bit from there.
Imagine if we applied that philosophy to the areas of our lives that we want to see change in…
👉Getting fit
👉Eating right
👉Learning a new skill
👉Performance at work
👉Being the parent, partner of friend we wished we were
One of the most liberating aspects of living this way is the freedom from ‘failure’.
It’s giving ourselves permission to do badly at first and get better.
😶Sometimes we don’t start doing what we need to because we think we might not execute it perfectly.
😶Sometimes we are emotionally triggered by bad results or feedback
If we embrace the 'Minimal Viable Product' concept, the shift in perspective allows us to start and be terrible at it without perceiving that as failure.
Instead of everything resting in our performance right now, we can see it as part of a continuum.
We can visualize ourselves as moving along the continuum and the daily wins and losses, steps forward and back are all part of the journey.
The amount of self-created stress that we don’t generate is staggering.
